Default New Broadband for £125 !! -please help - 22-01-08, 12:55 PM

I have just moved to new appartment and wanted to set up internet. The only problem is that the flat is in non cable area. Rang Virgin media and they said I would need to get Bt phone line first. Because it is non cable area I would have to pay £125 to Bt for setting up new line for me plus £10 for phone line each week. And then another £10 or more for internet.
I was wondering is there any other way to get internet without Bt. I am full time student and cannot afford to pay £125 for phone line which I would never use(got good deal on my mobile which gives me enougt free min so do not need phone line!) just to get broadband.
I would be very gratefull for any response with idea how I could sort it out. Thank you
