Default BT say my line can only handle 256k - 15-08-08, 01:29 PM

Hi
After over a month BT have finally put in my phone line (long long long story)
I have been phoning about ISPs to get information about their services and none could tell me what speed they could provide me with. After a lot of phone calls i phoned BT this morning and was on the phone for over 2.5 hours. It turns out BT Wholesale have not updated their database despite the line being live for over 2 weeks. No one in BT would contact them for me and to make matters worse I have been informed that the highest speed my line can take is 256k download. I live about 200meters from the exchange.
BT has told me that they cannot change this.
I am looking for advice on where i can go. 256k is very slow and i dont want to go back to Virgin Media.
Can anyone help me? Anyone in the same boat?

Try putting your postcode and phone number into this site:-

Samknows Broadband - Broadband Availability Checker

It'll give you details of how far from the exchange you are.

Alternatively post up your router stats (sync rates, attenuation, noise margin etc) and we'll be able to see what kind of speeds you can expect.
