Default HomePlug Connection - 08-10-07, 10:57 PM

i just bought some homeplugs from broadband buyer to use in my new flat because i cant run cable around the walls when i test the plugs in different sockets i get different speeds , is it ok to plug the homeplugs into an extension or does it have to go directly into the wall?

Hi Simmo,

you are technically supposed to plug directly into the wall but in practice many people use them on extensions where it is easier although this can have an effect on the speed so you might want to try different sockets - one thing you should know is that they shouldn't be plugged into a surge protector extension as although they may still function it can dramatically effect the performance ,

hope this helps

Everyone makes mistakes but it takes a computer to really screw things up!

I use them and they work very well but they can be expensive if you want a fast network connection i bought these Broadbandbuyer.co.uk | Devolo Homeplug AV dLAN 200 AV Starter Kit

and they have been excellent and after a bit of tweaking around i now get about 165Mbps which is pretty good.

if you cant run cables then it may be cheaper to get a wireless router - but i personally think the homeplugs are more reliable

I have my broadband though an extension at the min and not gettin the best speeds (in peak times) but in off peak times thought my extension i am gettin max speed which i am paying for 2mb.
It is known for it to be faster from the directly from the wall socket but it will work either way but a faster speed might help you so go directly into the wall for fast speeds
