Default BT Total useless broadband help? - 15-07-08, 08:49 PM

Hello,

We made the momumental mistake of signing our lives away to BT and taking the broadband package with BT Vision.

When we decided to go with them which was based on the test we did on the BT site which stated we would be able to get up to 6mbs for where we lived, great..!!

We moved in and the speed we were getting was nowhere near the 6mb they said we would get not even 50% it was around 1.5mb.

Our router was reporting we had a sync speed of around 6mb but we was not getting anything over 1.5mb.

After some investigating we have found out using speedtester.bt that our bras profile was limited to 1500k.

After around 30 calls to BT we managed to get them to sort the profile out which they say was stuck and it went up to 5-6mb and we thought that would be the end of it, not a chance it stayed like that for a few days and then the connection went very slow again, slower then before and now we have a bras profile reporting 1000k, we have contacted BT and they have stated there is nothing they can do.

So firstly is this correct or is it a case of they just say that because they are our ISP and they dont want to sort the problem out. Seems funny how before they started to look at the problem it was 1500k but now it is only 1000k is it a case of complain and they limit you.. you dare complain against the great BT sort of thing...

Secondly if this is true the tactics used to get you to sign the contract saying you can get 6mb and then only giving you 1mb is underhand so can we get out of the contract.

any help or advice very appreciated...

thanks...

Well for a start with all broadband packages its always UPTO, so in your case they would of said UPTO 6mb or your line is capable of 6mb.

Do you download on a regular basics? P2P maybe? If so your exchange might of automaticly limited your speed. If they have there is nothin [As far as i know you can do about it] But i do belive after a while the limit is raised again.
