Default Simply Terrible - 14-05-08, 03:35 PM

You see, theres just one problem here. Free 2Mb broadband for Sky Digital Customers.

Sounds great, except its free. So the incentive for it to be good and perfect isnt there, because its free. Many people I know on it, wish they weren't, especially seeing as most of them have taken 1-2 months just to get the kit they offer for it (modified router so you cant use it on a another provider), and then when they do get the kit, it invariably doesnt work.

So if you pay for it, you get priority. If you dont pay for it, you have to wait.

Thats life I guess.

Thought so.

I was thinking of changing [Not to sky], but know i am no longer a sky tv customer, so thats a no.

And anyways i would pay for it, you just cant get the speed i need for free.

Default £5/month package - It's not bad - 02-06-08, 01:01 PM

I dont know about the free one, how good or bad it is. Just know that 2gb/month wont have been sufficient for me. So went for the Sky-Mid package which is £5/month. Was a bit reluctant in switching 'coz I heard that Sky is still not very good with their broadband, and a few of my friends who had Sky weren't too satisfied - connection dropping and router problems.
After having the Sky broadband for a week now, I feel quite satisfied actually. I was previously with PlusNet, whose customer service was great, plus the connection was quite reliable. Switched only because Sky was so much cheaper. I am now getting twice the speed what I used to get on PlusNet (both are listed as "upto 8mbps")... it's a fast 6.5mbps when tested on speedtest.net or 4.5mbps when tested on broadbandspeedchecker. Dont know why the difference in the speed shown, but it sure feels fast. And no dropped connections yet. Yes I did have to play around with the channel for WiFi 'coz not all my laptops/smartphones were able to connect initially. But everything works now. Yoohoo!
Got a Sagem modem-router just couple of days after placing the order (54g with internal antenna). The switchover was done early morning on the date specified by Sky too. Couldn't have been better, I thought.
