| | Ports for P2P - 20-06-08, 04:03 AM Hi Every1
i just got connected with 02 585v7 box version #2 and i was wondering when i am using P2P software and was wondering if i woould or need to open a port for easy access for this as i am new to this router lark, this is my 1st one, as have always been on virgin cable prior to this.
Took alot of crap of virgin in the time i was with them, but they constant broken promises and the recent STM level are a bit too much fro any one who has been with them as when they diud not have them in place. You would laugh at the limits they have set before STM kicks in, and alot of times it just kicks in for fun.
This is my 1st Adsl provider and i am impressed with the level of service so far, alls good although was Estimated speed of 9.5MB, actuiall speed i am able to achieve is 6.3MB at the moment, but wouldn't mind the extra MB or so. Upload is @ 965kb, best i have ever had. I come from speeds of 2MB and up @ 224kb.
I am amazed at the sheer speed at the moment, and how easy it is to connect the whol;e set up to my desktop upstairs and am also able to connect via laptop from downstairs via the wireless connection.
Well impressed with the KIT so far.
Its basically plug'n'play.
So if anyone is able to answer my intial querie about the Ports, that would be great, but please be aware, when you do reply, that i am a newbie to all this router stuff.
Thanks, and hope the above info is of use to those whom are thinking about joining, the service is really an eyeopener.
The P2P Client ido use is Bit Tornado, dont know if that ifo is of any use. | | | | | Moderator Posts: 158 Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: England | 20-06-08, 07:54 AM http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
Thats What I Think You Mean, Just Click The Link, Then Chosse Your Router, Then The Program You Want [Bit Tornado] Then Just follow The Instrustions Quote: Quote: Quote: Quote: | My aim is to get this fourm to be one of the most well known on the web. The good news is that the BT client now has a green light.
Took a while to figure out what i was doing wrong intially, as i missed the space out of the Bit Tornado, but when i put the space in between the 2 words and voila!
i love the wireless connection on this modem, its rocks. never had net downstairs before on the laptop.
Wicked!!!
Thanks Pal!!!
Im Synching at round 6Meg, i was wondering if chasing 02 up to see if they would make it any faster, what you reckon, as it is supposed to be 8Meg connection? | | | | | Moderator Posts: 158 Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: England | 21-06-08, 10:18 AM It took me a while first time i set it up to, you might want to remeber how you do it, because if you ever change any settings, the light may go back to yellow, all you have to do to get it back is go through the same process, each time you do it you will get faster at doing it so it shouldnt be a problem
6meg on a 8meg connection, well it is a UPTO 8meg connection so if you do call O2 all they will tell you is that, or out of peak times you may get 8meg, in peak times i get around half of my connection speed, and outside peak times i get top speed, for what im paying for, which is only UPTO 2meg. Yeah have done that port forwarding on lap top as well for the wireless connection and then again works a treat.
Still loving the wireless!! ;-)
