Default Unlocking ZTE MF622 usb modem - 08-06-08, 08:21 AM

As is my normal habit, about three months ago I researched mobile broadband on the basis of price, without thinking of quality. Anyway yesterday, I was walking past Curries and noticed that the 3 pay as you go modem was only £49 and like a sucker bought it on the spot.

I don't really regret buying the modem, but after playing about with it and reading various reviews on the quality, I think it might be a good idea to unlock the modem. I have been looking on-line on how to unlock the ZTE MF622 and the only results have been links to obvious spam and phishing sites.

However, I did find this reference The new ZTE MF622 USB MODEM | MyCeloteh.Com you need to scroll down a bit but basically at one point the thread seems to suggest that for the ZTE MF 622, it is not the modem that is locked but the sim card?

Does anybody know of this is true and if not, does anybody know about unlocking the ZTE MF 622 from the 3 network.

I have been looking further into this and while I am loathe to pay for the obvious experiments, it seems that: Vodaphone, T-mobile and 3 network are all using similar modems!

If I open the control panel for the The ZTE MF622 modem and click on "TOOLS" it definitely seems to be possible to add connections for different service providers, [and sim card?]

I suppose it would really help if 3 had provided a proper user manual for the modem! As I say, I am loathe to pay to conduct the obvious experiment and would be grateful if an expert could provide some detailed guidance.

Default we have the same situation - 20-06-08, 03:47 PM

i live in the philippines and i am using the same zte modem you gents were talking about. according to advertising by smart phils. the modem is locked to the network and can only be used with their usim. i ran across the same thread that said that the sim card card was the one that was locked and not the modem. if you were going to ask me, i think it may be possible but very unlikely.

i am going to try it anyway. i am currently using the modem to type this in and im going to try it out with other sim cards. if i'm successful, it would be possible that you can do it too. i'll try to update you guys if i have any luck.

I've already tried it (putting globe sim or sun cel sim) on smartbro prepaid's modem and it doesn't work. It's the modem that is locked, not the sim card. I.ve been trying to find a site that does the unlocking for a couple of months now but so far I haven't found any.

In the Phillipines, this MF622 modem was made custom by ZTE to Smarr Broadband Inc.
This modem was sim-locked to SBI.The sim for this modem was customized by SBI for DATA LINK only.So you can't used this sim for CP,other sim will not work with this modem, infact smart buddy sim will not work also.
I believe ZTE & SBI has an exclusive contract regarding this matter,so we can't owe them an information how to unlock this damn modem.

The solution is to reverse engineer.....but who will initiate firts
(^_^)

Maybe someone out there has the capability to reverse engineer this damn MF622...pls help

Cool Unlocking the MF622 - 29-07-08, 02:05 PM

Hi All.

I'm visiting the Philippines and have bought the Smart wireless modem for use during the next 3 weeks.. I am led to believe that the 'Right" drivers for unlocking this are available from
< http://lee.hambley.name/files/ZTE%20Driver.zip >

As Smart have a run-out of the data sim if it is not used for 2 months, and they do not at this time have replacement data sims, I will try and reset the modem for use with any 3g compatible modem. I'll be back in the islands of paradise for Christmas so that is well past Smart's run-out time.

However, looking at the tools menu on the Smart start screen, there is a Factory Settings button, which although it is greyed out, suggests that it is possible to reset to factory default.

Regards,

Peter

Default Unverified links - 31-07-08, 01:03 PM

Matthew, et al.

Please accept my apologies for including a link without a disclaimer.

I had downloaded the file before my post and opened it in a secure environment, and could not find any nasties. That's not to say there are none, of course.

My first step when I leave the Philippines will be to reset the modem to ''Factory settings"" which are under the Tools menu on the Smart Window. This is only operative when the modem is off line. If this works and unlocks the modem, good!

If not, I'll bite the bullet and try the download. and see what happens!!!!!

I will keep you all posted of developements.

Regards,

Peter
