Default T-Mobile and 360 on xbox live - 06-05-08, 05:58 PM

Hi all, I'm using T-Mobile Web n Walk with 10gig download limit and the E170 usb modem. i've been using ICS through my laptop to play the 360 over xbox live, and i have to say T-Mobiles service is great. I live in a good coverage area and my download speeds never drop below 400kbs, reaching 1200kbs at best but averaging around 600 to 800 kbs, this is plenty enough for gaming and i'm amazed at how well it does work to be honest. the only problem i have with it is that my NAT settings are on strict which means i can't hear or talk to some players and have trouble joining some games. I've been told that this is due to T-mobile giving me a private ip address which in affect means their controlling my NAT. Can T-mobile change this for by say giving me a public ip or opening my NAT up, or whether this may change in the future with mobile broadband becoming more poplar? would be a shame if they can't as it i's a great alternative to having BT for line rental and £123 for a line to be fitted.

Default Xbox live and 3G Nat problems - 07-08-08, 03:49 AM

I have Three mobile broadband and use it to play on Xbox live although I would say that at it is average to poor for playing games but I would like to compare it to your t-mobile connection.
I solved the strict Nat problem by using a 3G router. This also meant I didn't have to use my pc for ics but was quite expensive.
However dont expect an open nat to solve all your problems, it didnt improve the gaming experience much for me because i still cant connect to some games. But i am happy I bought the router because the modem is more stable and crashes less when connected to the router so I lose connection less often.
The one I bought was a Billion 7402gx it works really well, it even has wireless so it can be used to create a portable wireless hotspot. Unfortunately your modem is not on the list of compatible modems but they are adding compatibility for new modems all the time. There are a few companies that are making routers for 3g so I am sure you will find one that works with your modem.
On the subject of connection quality and lag while gaming, how do these observations compare to your experience's.
On gears of war hosting games is impossible, when I search for games I will find quite a few but most of the games have one red bar (anything from half a second to 2 or 3 seconds bullet lag and erratic character movement, teleporting and connection losses). A couple of the games will have two yellow bars (small bullet lag maybe quarter to half a second with relatively smooth character movement) and very occasionally I will get one with three silver bars (no perceivable bullet lag and smooth character movement).
On call of duty 4 I have one bar (red) most of the time and two bars (light green) very rarely with frequent loss of connection.
Regards
Richard

Default t-mobile on xbox live - 13-08-08, 03:52 PM

Hi,
I have just got the same modem as you, the 10gb web and walk one.
I find it very good over xbox live and dont find the strict NAT to be a problem as most of my friends have an open NAT, this means i can still play with them as strict and open NAT's are fine together.
The only problems you will hva is playing other people with a strict NAT, its almost impossible.
anything else you need to ask just let me know.

Is that the t mobile one or the vodafone package?
Do you play any of the game I mentioned and how is your connection quality compared to my three one?
I am looking to change mine as I only have 2 months left on my contract.

Default t-mobile xbox live - 21-08-08, 07:42 AM

T mobile is the best for xbox live. i dont have any problems during the day time it just until america comes online at about 18:00 i can't actually play anyone, thats because i live in poor signal area in the country side. So if you live where there is good signal strenght you should be fine.

You can connect to xbox live using a usb dongle

The reabo has a tutorial on it.

Reabo.co.uk :|: Connect to Xbox Live with a Wireless USB Dongle

Be warned though if you connect is slow you will lag while playing
