Thumbs down Don't do it - 14-01-08, 10:10 PM

Just got the £15 3gig deal. Using PowerBook G4. Can't get more than 36kbits. Not sure I've set it up right. Utterly dismal tech support. It's going to be a long 18 months.

i have exactly the same problem, although my internet used to work properly. it worked for 2 months then all of a sudden i had the same problem as you. ive phoned the tech support/modem line 8 times over the past 2.5 months and during that time my internet has worked for ONE day. i am absolutely fuming and need to get out of this contract. anyone have any idea how? i am in liverpool and three's website says i have turbo reception. obviously a lie.

everytime i phone them they go over the same crap again and again while im wasting money listening on an 0870 number! i have asked many times to be put through to their complaints department and each time i am told "we dont have one". is that legal?!

in 2 weeks time i will be able to contact "oftel" as it will have been 3 months and the problem still isnt sorted. i just want to be rid of the contract though. im tied in for 24months at 15£ a month.

can anyone help me?

thanks

Hey just thought id let u kno that if you have not signed a WRITTEN contract then the contract would not stand in court as it is over 12 months.

Check your rights, thats how I got out of a contract with 3 when they mucked me about when I had probs with a phone on contract.

They did try to put a bad mark on my credit record but i complained about it and they have just recently wiped it !!!

Thumbs down My Humble Opinion - 07-02-08, 04:18 PM

Hi,

I am new to the forum but just wanted to express my findings on the service. I have been a customer of three mobile phones since they started in the UK and I went with them because of their track record, however I will be canceling my contract when it is up for renewal, this is why.

Problem 1:- Sending email from a mail client such a outlook, there are 2 reasons for this.

1. The IP addresses given by mobile broadband providers are recycled, this means that if an IP address has been blocked due to spam threats on another computer it will be blocked for the next person who picks up that IP address as well. I have witnessed this on a mobile service from another provider and there is very little you can do to stop this happening.

2. Three are currently struggling to get outgoing email connections working, at present they have no deadline for resolving this problem.

Customer support s advice on the email problem is to use web mail (if available) until the problem is resolved.

Problem 2:- Uploading files, if you need to upload any files for any reason then you have no real chance until they get the upload speeds sorted out, again no deadline for resolving this problem.

So did any of this really upset me, No, in fact because I am web developer I gladly gave them information on how many different broadband services I actually had email working on through one web hosting company.

What upset me was the fact that they expect me to pay for the service every month until they get the problems which they admit to resolved. Problems which I think have come about due to their own naivety in thinking that every broadband user only want's to surf the internet.

So my message to three is simple, don't blow a good product by upsetting users, until a phone call 15 minutes ago I was a happy customer now I am bitterly disappointed with your company. I didn't want to move away from three, I just wanted to suspend the broadband contract until you have resolved the problems you plainly admitted to me that you have.

So my advice to would be consider what you want to use mobile broadband for, if it just surfing go for it no, if you want more it may be better to hold fire and wait for the fixes.

Exclamation Beware With This!!! - 11-02-08, 07:03 AM

I have had the ZTE modem version of 3 broadband for about a week now, and i have had nothing but problems with it. I am in area of the pennines that is supposed to be in a 3 Turbo area, using 3.5G. The best speeds i am getting are 25kbps! 3 Technical are pants, and as mush use as a catflap in an elephant house. This is in addition to the modem constantly crashing, (I have re-installed 12 times now) and causing my OS to persistantly hang. I have had my system checked out and everything is OK.

This set up is great in principal - i had fanstastic service for 1 day. But if you want to use this, make sure you have a guaranteed 3.5G area, and get rid within the money back guarantee period. Check your small print! I am referring this to the OFT, because I feel as though i have been misled. You have been warned!

Default 3 Broadband modem problems - 15-02-08, 12:12 AM

I have had one of the 3 modems since November 2007.
It worked first time and worked at well over 1Mb/s. I was very pleased but now the service is crap.
Three are selling these modems like hot cakes and their network can't cope.
In the evenings my speed is down to 10kb/s sometimes less.
This is with an excellent signal strength. In the afternoon it is OK.
Went to the 3 store to complain and was told "no-one else has complained, it must be your computer, you need to phone our helpdesk"!
My advice is that if you are having problems go to a store and complain loudly. It won't improve your service but if enough peeople make a noise 3 may do something.
If I had a landline I would ditch the crap 3 service.

Default Happy with mine - 17-02-08, 05:34 PM

I've had mine for about a week now and have tried it in various locations. True, speed is nowhere near 2.8mbps but I'm averaging 600kbps in a rural location (on the edge of their HSDPA network, near York).
Like someone else said, they are selling so many of these things that the network is probably now heavily congested. But, the crux for me is that I'm paying £10 per month prepaid, getting a service that isn't much slower than my BT broadband line and a data allowance that is more than enough for my mobile needs.
Overall, I'm happy with it.

Default u want to use anything other than the WWW ? - 29-02-08, 11:07 PM

Hey

Just thought i'd add a comment, just got mine today, and well im not the usual internet user, i hardly ever surf, i need it for, FTP, Email, VPN, MSTSC services's, and well, not a good start :|

So for anyone thinking, yeah ill get one of these so i can FTP some stuff to my website etc, or say want to RDP into a terminal server somewhere, nope not working, its as though nearly every port is blocked for outgoing as well as in-comming.

FTP ports tried = 21, 1337
Remote desktop ports (MSTSC) = 3389 and 22

So it looks like ill be returning mine, and ringing my buddy on T-Mobile and get him to check these services i need to use "on the go" for me....

so another " BE WARNED"

Default Using Entourage with 3 modem - 06-03-08, 04:25 PM

I have just got a 3 modem, and after some HUGE problems getting it set up on my Mac (the helpdesk was useless, and until a handy man in a shop showed me how to set it up as a new network I was left hanging.)

My main problem is that I use Entourage to send all my emails, and using webmail is very impractical. I am not very technically adept, and don't know anything about SMTP servers.

Can someone tell me in clear terms how to set up Entourage using the 3 Modem so I can send emails (it will receive them.) Or is this even possible? I was given the mail.three.co.uk address by the man in the shop, but this doesn't work.

Any help/suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks
