Question Linux system - which mobile broadband works - 13-08-08, 04:41 PM

Dear Forum,

I recently purchased a Eeepc (LINUX) system for my mother to use, as a new pc user it is quite easy to navigate. I attempted to purchase (well I actually did buy) orange mobile broadband but it does not work on the system, as confirmed by orange. If I bought the pc and the mobile broadband together it would work.

Please can you advise is you know if any of the mobile broadbands will work on this system. I am not teccie in the least just in a state of despair. Any advice wil be recieved with thanks.

Lightbulb Linux Operating System - 22-08-08, 04:13 PM

Hi there, I have had similar problems with Linux O/s rrecently. Having purchased a Linux SUSE 11 DVD Luckily the cost was kept to the minimum. with the added reassurance of the reliability and stability of Linux, I was confident that this would be a great alternative to the vulnerable Windows OS. Its fine and great so long as you don't intend to use it for mobile Broadband. Unfortunetly its a let down. Many Networks do not even recoqnised the name Linux!! It does not SUPPORT ALL USB MODEMS. After extensive technical search, many ISP'S DO NOT accept it or non compatible with their hardware devices. I personaly tried 3 network, Orange, and the rest. You will need to return your pc back and reinstall (Unfortunetly Windows again) for the time being.

Hope this will resolve your problem

Regards

A Hauwei E220 dongle (the small white oval one that looks like a soap bar) works well with the Eeepc. It can be installed using the network icon and then choosing GPRS/3G as the type of connection.

3 and T-Mobile have these (those 2 do work with the Eeepc) and also I believe Vodafone have them, don't know about the other providers though.
